Kent Pankow

PARTY FOR PANKOW

A note from Jonathan Cruz

My longtime friend, Kent Pankow, is currently in the battle of his life, and I want to do everything I can to help Kent and his family as he fights cancer for a second time.

Kent was first diagnosed
with a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) tumour, the size of a golf ball, in the right frontal lobe of his brain in January 2000. With aggressive treatment and support from his family, Kent was able to beat the cancer and remain cancer free for seven years.

Sadly, in the spring of 2008, the tumours appeared again and he underwent chemo therapy treatment for over eight months. The chemo appeared to be working but, by January 2009 the tumours had adapted to the drug and were growing.

Kent’s current healing involved daily treatments of chemo on an indefinite basis. The chemo and tumour activity were having an impact on Kent’s quality of life. He was feeling nauseous, had low energy, was sleeping a lot, and couldn’t remember things as well.
His family wanted a better solution for him and decided to contact the Mayo Clinic in the US, for possible treatment. The doctors at the Clinic examined Kent’s medical file and felt he would benefit from treatment at their facility. This was very good news, as the Mayo Clinic rejects international patients if they do not believe the Clinic can offer a promising treatment strategy, given the expenses associated with travel to the Clinic.

On September 17, Kent and his wife saw Dr. Ian Parney, the Neurosurgeon at St. Mary's Hospital. He advised them that the best option for Kent is to have surgery. Dr. Parney believes he can remove 90-95% of the tumour. The seven to eight hour surgery is scheduled at the Clinic on October 2, 2009.

ABOUT 'PARTY FOR PANKOW'

With expenses mounting daily from travel, consultations, and the operation (approx $100,000+ US), I decided a good old fundraising party was in order…..and knew just the place to do it - my newfound vacant space at the studio.

Last week, my team at Jonathan Cruz Studio, together with the help of my event planner friends at Piperbloom weddings + events, put the wheels in motion for ‘Party for Pankow’. With limited access to my space and the timeliness of the cause, the event is set for Friday, October 2, which means, we don’t have a lot of time to plan…but hey, we all work well under pressure!

So, without further ado, I invite you to come out and party for a good cause.

The evening will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music, dancing, a salsa performance, silent auction items and more.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday, October 2.
